Enhanced Weather Widget:
Big Bear Mountain Resort, located in Southern California, is known more for it’s *party scene* than for its natural snow and deep powder days. For this reason, they want to turn the focus away from natural snowfall and highlight that their snowmaking and grooming machines are on.
Solution: We developed a new version of the standard weather widget that included components highlighting snowmaking, grooming, traffic, and hours of operation in addition to traditional weather metrics.
New technical requirements for this enhanced version included setting up new automated weather and traffic feeds, new animated icons and development of new backend Sitecore components.
Product Comparison Tables
Resorts were having a difficult time building and managing tables, specifically for product price comparison. Many had been using raw HTML Tables which are not efficient to build and manage nor are they easily readable on mobile devices.
Our team introduced a new table style specifically for creating comparison tables. It was developed as an additional style option within the existing rich text editor which allowed users to create tables just as they normally would. By applying the style, the table would adopt horizontal scrolling – suited for mobile viewing – and visual styling elements tailored to each resorts default brand style.
Styling options for favoriting/saving products:
We received feedback from resorts that the Add to Planner feature was not clear on what it was actually for. This feature is meant to function as a “favoriting” option, but the language and iconography were not immediately recognizable to users.
After some research on market trends, we concluded that the heart symbol is the most widely recognizable icon for this particular functionality. We added an option for content managers to change the iconography and copy for this feature. This change also increased the speed of the animation and reduced the number of clicks by the end user.
